HELLO MEMBERS AND FRIENDS OF OUR ANIMALS,

Sorry it has been a long time since a K9 newsletter has been published.   What with illnesses of helpers and lack of them in general time has gone by so quickly.

We still continue to rescue many dogs and cats, neutering and spaying as we go as the secret is to stop the breeding.   Don’t worry breeding will never be stopped altogether - some escape the net all the time!   The thing is that no matter if we are short of help or money the same numbers of animals always need to be rescued.  And money is what we need to talk about.

Always, money needs to be spent on animal food, vet bills, medicines, parasite sprays
and a variety of things needed for the daily, weekly and monthly running of the
kennels.   MONEY, MONEY, MONEY.   As an animal Sanctuary we simply cannot
do without it!   The kennels cost at least as much if not slightly higher than a year ago.
to run but one problem now exists, shortage of MONEY because of the economic
climate in general.   Because of this, funds are much more difficult to raise,
attempting markets, car boot fares, nearly new sales etc.   The truth is we are only
raising less than half the MONEY we were a year ago.   We thought it was hard then
but now
………

The stage we have reached folks is that for example we owe the food suppliers €2,500 and the veterinary establishments €3,500 alone.    This cannot continue.   Like all suppliers of services they need to be paid.   They are being patient but we are at the “red letter” stage.  We continue to ask them for their services, paying them only a fraction of what we owe.

In the meantime the animals are well taken care of, much with the help of volunteer helpers, but without an urgent injection of funds our future looks gloomy and questionable.

We do not like begging letters but this is one! We are in a desperate financial state. As members we are asking you for extra donations thus enabling K9 to continue to function normally without the thoughts of a bankrupt situation.   This can be done in the form of donations (large or small) or paying your out of date yearly subscription (€20) (if applicable).   We really need to raise €7000 to clear our debts and get back on “even” again.   So please dig into your pockets and purses and donate to this very worthy cause.   Can you really say “no” to all those lovable animals we have in our care.   We as an organization have faith that you can help the animals in this time of need.   In anticipation, the Committee, helpers and animals of K9.

Send your cheque with your name and address to: La Presidente, Refugio de Animales (K9), Apartado No 67, Adeje 38670, Tenerife, Canary Islands. Make your cheque out to “REFUGIO DE ANIMALES (K9)”  We will receipt all donations.   If you have any problems sending money telephone 0034 922 782840 or 922 740160

Some Facts: Since Jan 1st we have taken in 230 dogs, we currently have 78 dogs available for homing.

K9 desperately need help with organising fundraising events. Do you have the time and the ideas to liason with bars? If you think you can help us, please contact Pat on 608121081 or the kennels on 667638468 or email info@k9tenerife.com

Trike Tours with K9

How many of you have notice those brilliant Trikes riding (driving?) around recently?  Based down at Puerto Colon these Trikes can be hired for 1, 2, 3 & 4 hour guided tours – you choose whether to drive or whether to be driven.

As their leaflet says, this is something different to try and is totally safe.  You can arrange your tour by calling Sandy on 629 155 114, but please don’t forget to mention K9 Tenerife when you book because Trike Tours have very kindly agreed to donate 5 Euro per person to us.

In association with TENERIFE DIVE from Costa Del Silencio we are organising a TRY SCUBA DIVING in the pool at Westhaven Bay.  The aim is to raise badly needed funds and have great fun at the same time.

The cost will only be a 5 Euro donation per person to K9 with Tenerife Dive supplying all the Instructors, equipment etc free of charge.

In addition, PADI Master Instructor Yvonne, will be in the pool underwater doing a ´Breathalon¨.  Everyone can buy a ticket and guess how long Yvonne can stay underwater on 1 cylinder of air.

For non-divers the prize is a Discover Scuba dive in the sea and if the winner is already a certified diver, 1 days free diving (2 dives).  Again all proceeds will go to K9.

Anyone from 8 years to 80 years can participate and families are welcome, so why not give scuba diving a go and support K9 at the same time!  Its all happening on Sunday 14th December 2008 from 09:45hrs - don’t miss it!

If you are looking for a unique Christmas present, give a Discover Scuba or some scuba diving lessons. Details of the diving can be found on their website www.tenerifedive.com or you can email for more information to info@tenerifedive.com

Saturday, 1st of November saw another successful Quiz Night down at The Cheshire Cat in Torviscas.  This time our Quiz Master was ‘Big Dave’ and he entertained us from just after 9.30pm until the early hours of the morning!

As well as the quiz rounds we had one or two special guests, including Jesse Garron and a fantastic young singer from the UK by the name of Chelsea – what a fabulous voice this young girl has, I am sure we will be hearing a lot more from her in the future.

We were able to sell a few more of our Calendars and also a few copies of that great new book, Tenerife Lifeline (written and edited by Leslie Beeson).  Remember that the sale price is the same price wherever you buy it from BUT if you buy it from K9 then we get a donation of 4.50 from Leslie – now that’s got to be worth thinking about, hasn’t it?

Julie and Bee from The Cheshire Cat set out with an aim to raise more money than they did at the last Quiz they held and were really pleased when the final total was announced at the end of the night (beginning of the morning!).  A very respectable figure of 452.12 Euro!

Since then a few customers that were unable to attend on the night, had a whip around and have brought the total to just over 500 Euro.
