HELLO MEMBERS AND FRIENDS OF OUR ANIMALS,

Sorry it has been a long time since a K9 newsletter has been published.   What with illnesses of helpers and lack of them in general time has gone by so quickly.

We still continue to rescue many dogs and cats, neutering and spaying as we go as the secret is to stop the breeding.   Don’t worry breeding will never be stopped altogether - some escape the net all the time!   The thing is that no matter if we are short of help or money the same numbers of animals always need to be rescued.  And money is what we need to talk about.

Always, money needs to be spent on animal food, vet bills, medicines, parasite sprays
and a variety of things needed for the daily, weekly and monthly running of the
kennels.   MONEY, MONEY, MONEY.   As an animal Sanctuary we simply cannot
do without it!   The kennels cost at least as much if not slightly higher than a year ago.
to run but one problem now exists, shortage of MONEY because of the economic
climate in general.   Because of this, funds are much more difficult to raise,
attempting markets, car boot fares, nearly new sales etc.   The truth is we are only
raising less than half the MONEY we were a year ago.   We thought it was hard then
but now
………

The stage we have reached folks is that for example we owe the food suppliers €2,500 and the veterinary establishments €3,500 alone.    This cannot continue.   Like all suppliers of services they need to be paid.   They are being patient but we are at the “red letter” stage.  We continue to ask them for their services, paying them only a fraction of what we owe.

In the meantime the animals are well taken care of, much with the help of volunteer helpers, but without an urgent injection of funds our future looks gloomy and questionable.

We do not like begging letters but this is one! We are in a desperate financial state. As members we are asking you for extra donations thus enabling K9 to continue to function normally without the thoughts of a bankrupt situation.   This can be done in the form of donations (large or small) or paying your out of date yearly subscription (€20) (if applicable).   We really need to raise €7000 to clear our debts and get back on “even” again.   So please dig into your pockets and purses and donate to this very worthy cause.   Can you really say “no” to all those lovable animals we have in our care.   We as an organization have faith that you can help the animals in this time of need.   In anticipation, the Committee, helpers and animals of K9.

Send your cheque with your name and address to: La Presidente, Refugio de Animales (K9), Apartado No 67, Adeje 38670, Tenerife, Canary Islands. Make your cheque out to “REFUGIO DE ANIMALES (K9)”  We will receipt all donations.   If you have any problems sending money telephone 0034 922 782840 or 922 740160

Some Facts: Since Jan 1st we have taken in 230 dogs, we currently have 78 dogs available for homing.

Sorry, hope to back to normal in September

“HAPPY DAYS ARE HERE AGAIN”

Our Car Boot sales are back at Happy Days and will be held on the first
Sunday of each month starting 5th July 2009 (8.a.m. until mid-day)

Nearly New Sales at Callao Salvaje  on the 2nd Saturday in each month.
The last two Nearly New Sales have been a great success  -  the next Nearly
New will be held at Shimmers on Saturday 11th July  2009 (10.30a.m until 12.30)

Friends of the Animals - Car Boot Sales in Los Gigantes are held on the last
Sunday of every month at the Sports Centre (9a.m. until mid-day)

Friends of the Animals would like to thank Sally of “TipsyTerrace” at the
Sports Centre for allowing us to use the Car Park for our Car Boot Sales
and “TipsyTerrace” for our Monthly Meetings and the AGM.

K9 now have a stall at Alcala Market every Sunday from 9 until 1.p.m.
and also on Wednesdays at Playa San Juan Market.

More clothes, Bric-a-Brac etc. are now desperately needed to keep up the
good work at the markets.  Donations of clothes etc. may be made at the
Alcala Market, San Juan Market or direct to the kennels and if none of
these are suitable please ring Pat on 608 121 081.

Old Saucepans are also needed for dog bowls at the kennels!!

More Volunteers are desperately needed to help with dog-walking at the kennels
and also helping to look after the cats (especially on Sundays) and also volunteers
for Box Collections and help at the various events and Sales held by K9.
We also need volunteers to help with cat trapping both for K9 and Friends of the
Animals.  We have many small dogs and also nearly 40 kittens/cats that need
loving homes.

Due to the “Credit Crunch” we are already feeling the effects with more and more
cats and dogs needing homes with K9  -  please all cat and dog lovers think
carefully before taking on a cat or a dog - these animals need to have their injections
up to date 6 months prior to leaving Tenerife and the cost of taking them back to the
UK is astronomical.

Please ring either the Kennels 667 638 468 or Pat the Cat on 608 121 081.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE NEARLY NEW SALE ON SATURDAY 11th HAS BEEN CANCELLED.

Due to Pat the cat going into hospital for a new hip, the nearly new sale that was due to take place on the 11th July in Callao Salveje has been cancelled the next one will be on the 8 August

Thanks
